1929 Princes Ale

This bottle seems a little special.. read below my findings ref the label on reverse side

The label appears to read: “PRESENTED BY H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES”.

This is a commemorative bottle of Bass & Co.‘s Prince’s Ale, a strong English ale brewed in a special batch at their Burton-upon-Trent brewery. On July 23, 1929, the Prince of Wales (Edward, who briefly became King Edward VIII in 1936 before abdicating) visited the brewery and personally started the mashing process for this ale, continuing a royal tradition seen in earlier Bass brews like King’s Ale.    The beer was bottled around 1930 and sold at a premium price, with some bottles remaining available for years afterward. The embossed bottle typically features the Prince of Wales’ feathers and the words “Prince’s Ale,” while the main label includes the Bass red diamond mark and brewery details.   The back label you showed likely indicates the royal association or presentation aspect tied to the Prince’s direct involvement in its creation. Surviving bottles are now collectibles, often appearing at auctions, and some have been tasted in modern times, revealing aged flavors like sherry, oak, or balsamic notes despite being nearly a century old.
